You Say Tomato...

A little while ago, I got my order of veggie fimo slices.

Zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms and corn

It took some time but I got them all divided up and into their container sections.

Here's the mani/nail art I came up with this weekend:

I'm not sure I really like the matte polish. I guess I'm just too accustomed to having my nails sparkly. I used a regular (non-matte) top coat so that made the matte finish a little shiny.

Stickers:

I really fought my incredible urge to put glitter on the green matte. I did succumb to some white rhinestones. Just a little. Gaw, I'm just a sparkle lover.

My daughter said it was strange to have vegetables on my nails, but she liked it.

Sandcastles 2 ~ Electric Boogaloo!

Ok. I didn't give up. If you read this yesterday, you saw my attempt at painting sandcastles on my glue on nail blanks. Bless and blast you Robin Moses for putting that desire in my heart for painted sandcastles on my nails!

So with fresh eyes today, I approached this project again.

Ok. I think I can live with this. Less is more, so to speak. Instead of trying to define all the sandbricks, I thought just an outline was enough.

I also finished the outline.

I like the filled outline on the nail but it might look better without when I put the nails on. We'll see...

Products list in order of use:

1. Base- One Coat- 3/4 from tip to cuticle line- Revlon Gold Coin. Let dry.
2. Skyswipe-One Coat-LA Colors Orange. Let dry.
3. Castle-One to 2-ish Coats-LA Colors-Bronze (no name on bottle). Let dry.
4. Sky- Sponge-Wet n Wild Shine Sunny Side Up. Let dry.
5. Castle Door-One Coat-Rimmel Steel Gray
6. Sky-One Swipe top left corner-LA Colors Art Deco Paint Bright Orange
7. Castle Outline and Flag-Kiss Nail Art Paint Black
8. Flag-One Dab-Wet n Wild Teal or No Teal

What do you think? Does it remind you of a sandcastle? Should I leave the total outline or just the topline in black?

Sandcastles 1: My give up!

I've been trying to create sandcastles on nails for the better part of the afternoon. I also tried to make nail stickers but we won't go there right now.

First and foremost, I'm not an artist. I can barely draw. But I want sandcastles, dernit!

I'm worn out. I used different shades of beige nail polishes, Kiss Nail Art Paints, LA Colors in orange, and LA Colors Art Deco, Wet n Wild nail pail. You've seen them all on my blog before. I also used gold glitter, pink glitter, and green glitter nail polishes.

Here's my first attempt. The sand part of the castle is too dark. The black lines are too thick. My daughter said the flag above looks like a leaf. Hurray! I made a leaf! Too much gold glitter over everything. It's also painted upside down. I screwed up and all of them are supposed to be with the castle on the nail edge, so that to the wearer, it's upside down. Oh well...

Second attempt. My daughter also said it would be better with some sky rather than all tan/beige. So I blended 3 orange colors. She said it was too much orange. Maybe just a slice of orange would be better. She did like the color of the sand in the castle better. And the flag now looks like a flag rather than a leaf. (Pale pink glitter over the orange sky and gold over the castle)

Third attempt. The sand color is better. The black detailing is thinner and more. The sky--it's getting there. The flag's not too bad. I think if I had a different shade of brown or something for the castle details it would be better. (Pale pink glitter over the sky, and just a few dabs of gold glitter over the castle)


What do you think? Should I just give up?

Mosaic 2- or What to do when the press on nails get pithy at the cuticles

I really was hating the way these nails were looking after 4 days wear. It only happens with press-ons with french tips. The "naturalness" of the nail bed on these french tip nails get dried out. That's the best I can describe it.

They start to look "pithy" at the cuticle edge and I can't stand it. Instead of removing them though, I decided to paint over them.

Two coats of white polish. OPI Alpine Snow

I saw online that white polish acts as a primer and will make bright colors "pop". Thanks Robin Moses for that tip! I needed 2 coats to cover the boa/notes artwork on the french tips.

Polishes Front Row L-R: Sinful Colors Queen of Beauty, Sinful Colors Dream On, Wet n Wild Fast Dry Teal or No Teal, LA Colors (no name) Orange, Wet n Wild Fast Dry Sage in the City, Kiss Nail Art Paint Black, LA Colors Bright Orange, Sinful Colors Neon Melon

Each nail got a dab of each color, except the glitter.

I used the LA Colors Bright Orange to fill in the wee gaps that the polish brushes were too big to go.

One coat of Sinful Colors Queen of Beauty glitter polish over all.

Inspiration: Stained glass floral night lite

And here is the finished look!

I painted black lines dividing each color to make the mosaic, stained glass look.

Wait a few minutes after painting the black lines. 

Apply quick drying top coat and you're done!
