You Say Tomato...

A little while ago, I got my order of veggie fimo slices.

Zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms and corn

It took some time but I got them all divided up and into their container sections.

Here's the mani/nail art I came up with this weekend:

Nails:

Revlon Matte Suede Emerald City, LA Colors Art Deco Bright Orange

I'm not sure I really like the matte polish. I guess I'm just too accustomed to having my nails sparkly. I used a regular (non-matte) top coat so that made the matte finish a little shiny.

Stickers:

I really fought my incredible urge to put glitter on the green matte. I did succumb to some white rhinestones. Just a little. Gaw, I'm just a sparkle lover.

My daughter said it was strange to have vegetables on my nails, but she liked it.

This is a post I wrote earlier because I'm "getting the heck outta Dodge" for the day! 

Yay!!!!

These are not the nails I'm wearing. I'll post those tomorrow.

I've had this picture for a very long time. Actually, it's a card. I loved the poem and image so much I framed it. The sentiment helped me many times when I was divorced and a single mom.

The nails I designed are based on the colors in the art work on the card.

They've changed the design some. The smaller nails in the pack have a tab now. That's handy.

 Polishes:

L-R: LA Colors Gold (Chunky) Glitter, Revlon Mint, Revon Gold Coin, China Glaze Going My Way

I started by taking a small piece of cosmetic sponge and sponging on Going My Way, covering and moving the french tip line down. Then I sponged Gold Coin, followed by Mint. I allowed the polishes to dry slightly between coats. When the nails were dry, I dabbed the gold chunky glitter over the Gold Coin. 

I added lacy, and flowery stickers and clear rhinestones. On the thumbs I used some larger colored rhinestones. One thing I've learned with the these stickers to use tweezers to peel them off and place them on the nails, so I'm not messing up the sticky.  The clear rhinestones were stuck to a sheet. They were a bit tedious to work with. I finally figured out it was easier to use the pointy end of the orangewood stick to get them off the sheet, and onto the nail. Because I didn't have to use clear polish to hold them on the nail, I was able to manipulate them easier into place.

4th of July Mani

Hi everyone! I'm back!  Well, sort of.

I've been sick all week with a cold and upper respiratory problems. I'm feeling better today, but still not full of energy.  All week, I've been thinking about doing some nails for 4th of July.

I bought these stickers at Sally's.

I wanted to incorporate some of the stickers into the design.

I also decided to use up the remaining nails in this box.

These huge thumb nails are what's left from that box.

I did manage to get 6 nails from the Deceptions box, and added 4 Nailene blank nails.

Polishes:

L-R:Piggy Polish Sleigh It Ain't So, Sally Hansen Purple Cloud, NYC Skin Tight Denim Creme, Confetti Party Palace Blue, LA Colors (no name) white glitter, Milani Art of Gold

I taped the french tip nails with Nailene French Tip Guides, to the top of the painting platform, and painted the full cover nails and french tips randomly.

2 coats each color

1 coat: Party Palace Blue over the blue nails, white glitter over the others.

 I applied the stickers to the full cover/polished nails, and added a gold line under the french tip nails. And a few rhinestones to two of the stickered nails.

I'm not really thrilled with these stickers. When I polished them with a clear coating the stickers bled.
It's not surprising to me now that they were on clearance for $2.50. I had to cover the blurry eagle with another sticker and touch up the flag with some white.

Fimo Fruit Nail Art-Polka Dots!

I've seen several examples of black with white polka dots and fimo fruit on the net, and wanted to put my own spin on it.

I don't have enough black french tip nails left to do a whole set. Also, I wanted a medium length nail for this art. Looking through all my pre-painted white french tip boxes, there was nary a medium length among them. I guess I learned long ago that length doesn't work for me. REAL SHORT length barely covers and hides my nail edge with the white french tip.

I settled on these.

They are short length but on me they are more medium in length. The tips are bigger than some others. They also have a moon painted at the cuticle. A gimmick to simulate the natural nail's moon.

I must have worn them when I first got them a couple years ago, because there were just enough for this set.  I really should start writing on the boxes the dates when I get them.

The kit comes with 28 nails, an orangewood stick, a small nail file (which is gone), and glue. This package is nifty because it's got a slot for the glue to stand up in, when you use it.

I selected the artiflicial nails that fit my nails. On 3 of the nails I marked where the black french tip needed to land so my real nail won't show through the nude nail base on the artificial nail.

Polishes:

I taped the nails with the nail guides, and stuck them to the edge of the platform. Another time before, I taped them to the platform, with the tap guides overlapping and that was a disaster to get off later.

I painted each edge in black and let it dry.

While I was attacking the curling fruit, I added some rhinestones to the thumbs and ring fingers.

You can see this is a really easy nail art design. The only draw backs are waiting for the layers to dry, and spending some time getting the fruit to lie down and not curl.
