Midnight in the Garden

The fimo slices I ordered from Hong Kong finally came! It only took a little over 2 weeks. I was elated because the shipping notes said it could take up to 8 weeks!

For the base, I used 2 coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear 310 Gunmetal.

Gunmetal is such a beautiful dark grey. It really is gorgeous on it's own.

Once that dried, I added a glitter coat of Sinful Colors Queen of Beauty.

And then side swipes on the cuticle edge for stars in the sky.

Here are the fimos I used in the nail art.

 When I saw the butterflies and dragonflies I was excited. I thought the neon orange butterflies would look particularly striking against the Gunmetal grey. 

 I was really disappointed when the neon butterflies just vanished under the clear nail polish. I have had this happen before with orange fimo slices of fruit. Oh well... I eventually used a small dotter and white polish to make something of those neon orange butterflies show up.

Now this is a subjective choice--which way to orient the nail art.

Should it be facing the wearing or facing out, to the observer?

I have seen nail artists (those who paint on other's nails), always orient the nail art work as if they are looking at it. The wearer would have to turn their hands to see the nail art.

I have also seen those who do nail art on their own nails to always orient it for the wearer to look at it correctly. To an admirer the nail art is upside down. I hope I'm describing this correctly.

What do you decide to do when you make nail art?

With this design I decided to put the leaves at the tips, and the butterflies toward my cuticles.

Is it right or wrong? I don't know. I would just rather extend my fingers out to show people who comment then try to contort my hand in a way for them to see what I was getting at.

 I added rhinestones after the fimo for more eye catching sparkles.

Sugar Nails

I didn't know what to name this. 

I thought they looked like sugary nails.

These are the nails I used.

L-R:LA Colors white glitter, Borghese Patina Pearl, Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, Kiss Nail Art Paint Pink Glitter & Gold Glitter, CG Boundless Color Ruby Dust

•  One coat of Lavender Cloud over the white tips.
• Three coats of Patina Pearl over Lavender Cloud tips.
• LA Colors white glitter from tip to mid-tip.
• CG Ruby Dust over nail bed to mid-tip (meeting edge of white glitter).
• Kiss Nail Art paint pink glitter at bottom of white tip.
• Kiss Nail Art paint gold glitter swipes on white tip.

• I used fimo slices of butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, and a few leaves.
• And added different colored rhinestones.

I got this hand-made bead ring from the balloon fiesta last month.

I like how they turned out. And they're fun for me to look at. :D

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Gunmetal, Essie Red Nouveau, Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen White

Red Checkered Tablecloths:

• 2 coats Red Nouveau. Let Dry
• Vertical and Horizontal lines with White Nail Art Pen. Let Dry.
• Fill in every other square with White Nail Art Pen. Let Dry.
•  Dab Tokyo Pearl over White Squares. Let Dry.
•  Clear Top coat.

O.P.I. What's With The Cattitude?, Ogre The Top Blue

Blue Plates:

• With medium size dotting tool, make dots with Ogre The Top Blue. Start in the center of nail with first dot, then apply dots all around to make a full, round shape. Let Dry.
•  With White nail pen, and Gunmetal, (using a small dotting tool) make shading and open circles in plates to mimic depth.
• Use What's With The Cattitude, Gunmetal, and dotting tool to make 5¢ on nails.

It's really hard to make something look 3-D when it's curved around a nail, and I'm not artistic.

Fimo Slices:

• Once everything is dry, apply clear top coat. 
• Dab clear top coat on area for fimo slice. 
• Dip dotter into dab on nail, then tap dotter onto fimo slice.
• Place fimo slice on nail. Cover with clear top coat.
• If Fimo curls, add more clear top coat and hold down with dotter or finger.

Under The Sea with Fimo Fish

This was the mani full of troubles.

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration.

I have wanted to paint mermaids on my nails. 

This is not that mani.

I wasn't sure if this should be full nail or french tip. When I couldn't decide, I made this mani instead.  I used Kiss Oval Active full cover nails. More on that in a moment.

I then had to decide if the bottom of the sea would be on the nails tips, or at the cuticle edge. Do you ever think about these things when doing nail art? In the mean time, I painted all the nails with Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, my white-ish base of choice. While that was drying I decided the bottom of the ocean would be at the tips of the nails.

Polishes:

This is the exact order in which I used the polishes.

Left to Right: Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, Revlon Mint, Confetti Tahitian Turquoise, Wet n Wild Teal or No Teal, LA Colors Black Velvet, Confetti Tiara, LA Colors(no name) turquoise glitter, Confetti Party Palace Blue, Color Zone (no name) blue glitter.

1. Sponged 2 coats of Mint. Let dry. Then...
2. Sponged 2 coats of Tahitian Turquoise. Let dry. Then...
3. Sponged 2 coats of Teal or No Teal. Let dry. Then...
4. Sponged a very tiny amount of Black Velvet right on the nails' tips. Let dry. Then...
5. Dabbed Tiara on Mint area. Then...
6. Dabbed turquoise glitter on middle section. Then...
7. Dabbed Party Palace Blue on top section avoiding very tip. Then...
8. Dabbed Color Zone blue glitter over Black Velvet. Let dry.

Here's what they looked like after all that.

 It had come to my attention that the last 2 manicures I've worn have been fimo fruit.  I wanted something different so I pulled out all my little fimo fishies.

I decided on using the blues, greens, golds, and diamond rhinestones from the big wheel.

And the black and white flourishes from these stickers.

I'd watched a lot of youtube videos on under the sea type nail art. So many talented people who can paint and draw with brushes and polish. I'm not confident at all to attempt that. After all the time I spent adding all those layers, I didn't want to risk messing up big time by trying to paint by hand.

Wearer's point of view

When I add stickers, I try to do mirror imaging. While I was adding all the embellishments, I realized I'd made a huge blunder! I had painted only NINE nails! I was missing my left ring nail. Even when I took this picture, I did not realize my mistake.

When I saw what I had done, I could NOT believe it! I had to go through all the steps again, just for one nail. 

INCREDIBLE!

And since this was a nail art project with many problems, I couldn't get the nail to stay on the duct tape so I could paint it. Finally though, I got it painted and embellishments applied.
