Full Blown Summer-Broadway FAME!

Hello everyone!

It's so hot...well...for most everyone. I've fought it and denied it's summer.  Not really but wouldn't that be awesome?

I've had these nails since summer of 2010. I wore them once with megatabs and took them off that same day.  When I bought these, they were just $3.99. I ordered them from Walgreens. Now I see they have raised prices to $4.49. But they are still only $3.99 on Beautyonlinesupply.com. This set of nails doesn't come with glue, file or orangewood stick. So have those things on hand if you're going to put them on.

Broadway: Fame

I love this design. Does it remind you of summer?

My trouble with these nails are they are medium in length and the design doesn't disguise my short nails' edges. Also, I felt they were too long for my fingers.

Look at these long suckers! You can see where my real nail ends under the nails.
I used the glue to glue technique I learned at the Kiss Webinar, and this time, I didn't have even one air bubble!

So what I thought I'd do was use some fruit slices to to enhance the nails and cover my nails' edges, and trim down the tips, so I wouldn't slash anyone to bits.

I use a big toe nail clipper to clip the tips. I know some people just file them down, but I'm not that talented. They'd come out really crocked for me.

Here they are cut down. They are still really long. I could file the nails at the cuticle edge, I've done that before. But with french tip nails, I found that a filed cuticle edge is really apparent.

And here they are with a piece of fruit and some rhinestones.

Pretty wild, eh? Or fun summer look? Or both?

I'll try to upload some day time shot while I'm out today. I think the flash makes them look more dramatic than they are. We'll find out later...

Thanks for stopping by and taking time to read my blog!

Fruit Skittles

I'm back into my fimo fruit and fruit slices!

This is my mani for the next few days...

Polishes:
L-R: Wet n Wild Fast Dry The Wonder Yellows, LA Colors (no name) Orange, Wet n Wild How I Met Your Magenta, Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, Sinful Colors Dream On, Wet n Wild Sage in the City, Wet n Wild Saved by the Blue
Do you remember Roy G Biv from school?

I painted each nail close to the R(ed) O(range) Y(ellow) G(reen) B(lue) I(ndigo) V(iolet) colors of the rainbow. On the thumb nails, I painted one blue and one green. Oh, before that, I taped the french tips with french tip guides, and painted 2 coats of Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud.

After the polishes dried, I painted each nail with a corresponding color glitter polish.

Once that all dried, I lined each french tip bottom edge with black and then silver nail art paint.

A little while later, I started applying the fimo fruit and fruit pieces.
Then I finished up the nails with a bit of bling.

Some Outside Shots

A couple of days ago, I ordered some more fruits and veggies(!)
I can't wait to try them out.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Got any special plans?
I'll be working on scrapbooking our family's cookbook for my mother.
Thanks for stopping by!

Fimo Fruit Nail Art-Polka Dots!

I've seen several examples of black with white polka dots and fimo fruit on the net, and wanted to put my own spin on it.

I don't have enough black french tip nails left to do a whole set. Also, I wanted a medium length nail for this art. Looking through all my pre-painted white french tip boxes, there was nary a medium length among them. I guess I learned long ago that length doesn't work for me. REAL SHORT length barely covers and hides my nail edge with the white french tip.

I settled on these.
They are short length but on me they are more medium in length. The tips are bigger than some others. They also have a moon painted at the cuticle. A gimmick to simulate the natural nail's moon.

I must have worn them when I first got them a couple years ago, because there were just enough for this set.  I really should start writing on the boxes the dates when I get them.
The kit comes with 28 nails, an orangewood stick, a small nail file (which is gone), and glue. This package is nifty because it's got a slot for the glue to stand up in, when you use it.
I selected the artiflicial nails that fit my nails. On 3 of the nails I marked where the black french tip needed to land so my real nail won't show through the nude nail base on the artificial nail.

Polishes:
I taped the nails with the nail guides, and stuck them to the edge of the platform. Another time before, I taped them to the platform, with the tap guides overlapping and that was a disaster to get off later.
I painted each edge in black and let it dry.
Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud
Handy-dandy, expensive dotting tool
(snipped off end of q-tip)
Polka Dots
Alternating Pink and Green lines with Silver lines underneath
While I was attacking the curling fruit, I added some rhinestones to the thumbs and ring fingers.

You can see this is a really easy nail art design. The only draw backs are waiting for the layers to dry, and spending some time getting the fruit to lie down and not curl.

What do you think? Do you like this fimo fruit nail art? Will you try this mani/nail art some time? If you're going to, or already have done something similar post a link. I'd love to see it.
