Something's Fishy at Night

I have to say, Dee from Deez Nailz inspired this. She's done many manis on one set of nails this week. That got me thinking. What could I do with this nail art to change it up?
I decided to take off the blue, as much as I could around the fish, and turn it into this...

Polishes:

LA Colors (no name) thick Silver Glitter, and Black Velvet, Color Zone (no name) blue glitter, Kiss Nail Art Paint Purple, Cover Girl Ruby Dust, Kiss Nail Art Paint Black

  • After removing as much as the blue as possible, I outlined the fish in purple nail art paint, covering the blue around them.
  • Then I took the black nail art paint and outlined the bottom of the french tip, filling it in with the Black Velvet.
  • On the nail beds I painted on coat of Ruby Dust.
  • From the french tip bottom to the middle I painted one coat of blue glitter.
  • From the middle to the tip, I painted the silver glitter.
  • After all dried, I applied top coat.
  • I did have to add a rhinestone over one stubborn blue dot on the pirate booty ring finger.
I like how the fish really stands out now.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Under The Sea with Fimo Fish

This was the mani full of troubles.

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration.

I have wanted to paint mermaids on my nails.

This is not that mani.

I wasn't sure if this should be full nail or french tip. When I couldn't decide, I made this mani instead.  I used Kiss Oval Active full cover nails. More on that in a moment.

I then had to decide if the bottom of the sea would be on the nails tips, or at the cuticle edge. Do you ever think about these things when doing nail art? In the mean time, I painted all the nails with Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, my white-ish base of choice. While that was drying I decided the bottom of the ocean would be at the tips of the nails.

Polishes:
This is the exact order in which I used the polishes.
Left to Right: Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, Revlon Mint, Confetti Tahitian Turquoise, Wet n Wild Teal or No Teal, LA Colors Black Velvet, Confetti Tiara, LA Colors(no name) turquoise glitter, Confetti Party Palace Blue, Color Zone (no name) blue glitter.

  1. Sponged 2 coats of Mint. Let dry. Then...
  2. Sponged 2 coats of Tahitian Turquoise. Let dry. Then...
  3. Sponged 2 coats of Teal or No Teal. Let dry. Then...
  4. Sponged a very tiny amount of Black Velvet right on the nails' tips. Let dry. Then...
  5. Dabbed Tiara on Mint area. Then...
  6. Dabbed turquoise glitter on middle section. Then...
  7. Dabbed Party Palace Blue on top section avoiding very tip. Then...
  8. Dabbed Color Zone blue glitter over Black Velvet. Let dry.
Here's what they looked like after all that.
It had come to my attention that the last 2 manicures I've worn have been fimo fruit.  I wanted something different so I pulled out all my little fimo fishies.

I decided on using the blues, greens, golds, and diamond rhinestones from the big wheel.
And the black and white flourishes from these stickers.

I'd watched a lot of youtube videos on under the sea type nail art. So many talented people who can paint and draw with brushes and polish. I'm not confident at all to attempt that. After all the time I spent adding all those layers, I didn't want to risk messing up big time by trying to paint by hand.
Wearer's point of view

When I add stickers, I try to do mirror imaging. While I was adding all the embellishments, I realized I'd made a huge blunder! I had painted only NINE nails! I was missing my left ring nail. Even when I took this picture, I did not realize my mistake.

When I saw what I had done, I could NOT believe it! I had to go through all the steps again, just for one nail.
INCREDIBLE!

And since this was a nail art project with many problems, I couldn't get the nail to stay on the duct tape so I could paint it. Finally though, I got it painted and embellishments applied.

And here's the mani I'm wearing this weekend!

Pretty wild?

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Minnie's Sparkly Beach

My morning mug of java was my inspiration today.
Now that's a BIG mug!

Polishes:
L-R: Sally Hansen HD 15 DVD, Confetti Belle of the Ball, Color Zone (no name) lilac glitter, LA Colors (no name) chunky gold glitter, LA Colors (no name) deep purple glitter

Ok so I took the Confetti and sponged 2 coats from the tip to halfway down the nails. Then I tried sponging on the DVD. It is so runny it just slid around the nails. So I just brush/dabbed it on the ends.
I really love that chunky gold glitter and wanted to use it. I dabbed it on, up to the lilac line.
After that I used the Color Zone lilac glitter on the middle section, and then the LA deep purple glitter on the tips.

Nail Polish Collection and Storage

My nail polish collection was taking up too much space in the bathroom I share with my husband. He didn't mind it, but it was driving me crazy. I took all the polishes out, and will store them in my craft room. While I was moving everything, I figured it would be a good time to chronicle what I have.
Well, here's everything laid out on my craft table.
These are the Sephora, OPI for Sephora, Nicole for OPI, China Glazes, Essie, Ulta, Barielle polishes.
There are some Sally Hansen polish pens too. I didn't pay full price for any of them. The Essie was free when I signed up for something on Facebook.
Cover Girl glitters
I just love this brand, Confetti. It's exclusive to CVS I believe. If you google Confetti you'll read they were involved in a lawsuit. I haven't seen any new colors on the rack at my local CVS. They are just $1.99/pc. I usually pick up another color every time I go in.
LA Colors: Some I found for $1 at the Dollar Store. A set of 7 I found at Marshalls for $5.99. Better than the Dollar Store!
Bought these at ULTA in the clearance section and sale rack.
Revlons

Sinful Colors from Walgreens

.69¢ sale Wet N Wild Shines from Walgreens

Wet n Wild Nail Pail colors (used CVS coupon on it)

Wet n Wild Craze (bought on clearance at Albertsons)
$1 at Dollar Tree and Big Lots
This was my first nail storage box. Scented drawer paper liners come in this box. I got it at Crabtree and Evelyn. I really liked it because it's narrow and fit on the ledge in the bathroom. I outgrew it though, and now I only use it for polishes that are separating. The only con about this other than size, was the fact I couldn't readily see the colors when I wanted to paint my nails.

I sort my polishes by color group, and then size. I still needed something narrow to fit on the ledge in the bathroom. One day at Big Lots, I found these small, clear Ball plastic food containers. I bought 3 thinking it would be enough. Yeah, right!
I eventually bought another container at a different Big Lots. It's not the same height. I store the very short bottles in there along with the nail pens.

I can quickly see what I need to grab.

But I have more polishes. Right now, I'm using the Wet n Wild Nail Pail colors a lot. So they live inside the pail. I didn't remove the cardboard insert inside so the polishes are very easy to reach.
Poilsh paints, glitters and polish remover in this box
This is where the polishes live now. It is not a huge collection compared to some, but it works for me. As soon as my daughter takes those books behind them to the Goodwill, I'll put my boxes of artificial nails behind them.  But that's for another day, and another blog post.

If you want to know the name of any of the colors, just ask.
How big is your collection? How do you store it? Are you happy with your polish storage solution?
