Confetti Polish Collection

I read recently on Nouveau Cheap that Confetti polishes at CVS were not being pulled off the shelves due to a law suit, and in fact, they've come out with more colors!

I've been on the lookout for a new display but nothing's happening here. When I'm on vacation in California, I'm going to look in a CVS there for one color in particular, Tasmanian Devil. It's supposed to be a good dupe for Debby Lippman's Happy Birthday.

My Confetti polish collection has been growing, slowly, and I wanted to see what I have.

I wrote the list in my notebook, and swiped the color on the line.
This is one coat
And here they are with 2 coats
The Sheers:
Tiara, Pink Paradise, Dreamdate, Pink Confetti
Tahitian Turquiose, Party Palace Blue, My Favorite Martian

The Red Hues:
Cherries Jubilee (the flash makes it hot pink but it's really more like a bluish red)
The Red Carpet (this is an orange-red)
Dressed To The 9's, Beach Dancin, Debutante (I put this in the reds because of it's pinkish tint)

The Purple Hues:
Belle of the Ball, Purple Pizzazz (a sheer), Silver Slippers, Moonsruck,
Just Dancin, Masquerade Ball, Centerstage, Smitten

The most disappointing polish on it's own for me is My Favorite Martian. It's just so watery. It would probably take 4 coats to reach opacity.  Tahitian Turquoise runs a close second in the disappointment category. It's so pretty in the bottle, and yet so sheer.  I use these two in spongings and layerings but it would nice to have a solid color with 2 coats.
All in all though, I really love this inexpensive, ($1.99/bottle) collection.  I'm glad to see the collection is not going away any time soon.

Now to find that illusive Tasmanian Devil!

Blame It On Rio

Mamaluck on youtube has made a very interesting and beautiful nail art design. Video Title: "Rio Inspired Nail Art." She's taken 3 colors, the ones in the movie's title Rio:
Blue Yellow and Red.

I, who apparently subscribe to the adage, "More is...More," when it comes to nail art, have come up with my own version of this design.

Nails:
I've had these for awhile and wore a set. It's a neat concept. The french tips are very thin, and would probably look very natural on someone with longer nail beds. The nails are real short length.

There are 36 nails in 20 sizes. The custom fit refers to the arch of the nails. There are 12 flat and 24 regular.
I guess I used up all the flat arch nails the first time I wore these. Not sure I have enough sizes to fit for one more mani next time. I do remember the nails fit very well the first time I wore them. But my short nail beds didn't work with this design.

The kit came with a brochure folded up small, and tucked inside. Like Kiss was sending a secret message.

This curious, plastic thing was inside the nail kit box.
It comes apart. Why? I have no clue. If You know why, please tell me.

The only clue to what it used for is from this pic #3 on the back of the box. (I couldn't get the suction cup to work on the nails)
Oh Kiss, if only you could be more clear on your directions and not so cryptic at times.

But we carry on with scant knowledge...
I painted 1/3 down from the tip with Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud. I want the bright colors to pop. I'm sure if it helped the polishes, but it did give me a starting line when I painted on the polishes.

Polishes:
Confetti Tiara, Milani Green Stretch, Sinful Colors Dream on, Confetti The Red Carpet, & Tahitian Turquoise, Sally Hansen HD Lite, LA Colors Bright Orange, Rhinestone
The process is this: (I suggest using polishes that are not watery)
  • Let the polish be thick on the brush and paint stripes on the nail with the colors you choose, from bottom of the french tip to the tip top.  (Use same colors in same order on each nail or change up order as I have done)
  • While it is still wet, take a toothpick and drag it lightly from side to side, alternating opposite sides. This should give it a zebra-like stripe effect. The colors run through each other.
  • Continue this step with each nail.
  • Once the polishes have dried, paint Tiara glitter in one coat on each tip.
  • Add rhinestones.  (I used Tiara to set the rhinestones instead of using clear polish this time)
  • Once everything is dry, apply clear top coat over all of the nails.
What I tried to accomplish with the rhinestones was to put the same or nearly the same color of rhinestone with the strip color.

This was my first try at toothpick dragging. It looked very easy to do on the video. Not so much for me in real life. I hated the first nail so much, I wiped it off and tried again.

Have you done nail art with thick rows of polish and toothpicks?

Fruit Salad

It just feels like summer is winding down. Do you feel it too?

I doubt I'll be using much fimo fruit in the winter, so I want to enjoy summer nail art while I can.

First she hates the heat, then she wants to enjoy the stuff of summer.
When will she make up her melon???

This was going to be yellow french tips with fimo fruit.
As you can see, it's not so much yellow because...
Sally Hansen Yellow Kitty
These puppies practically glow in the dark!

Nails:
These are Nailene french tip for flat nails. They are medium in length. Yes, I know. I've been trying to not get medium length. But these were on sale, and with my coupon, they were $3.99 or something lower, that I couldn't pass up. I like flat arch nails because they fit my natural nails better.

The kit comes with glue, a plastic manicure stick, and nail file.
For comparison, Nailene's file and manicure stick on the left, Kiss manicure stick and file on right.

Pic to show that these nails are flat arches compared to...
Regular arched nails (from Kiss)

Polishes:
LA Colors Black Velvet, Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, LA Colors turquoise glitter, Sally Hansen HD Pixel Pretty, Wet n Wild Teal or No Teal, Cover Girl Ruby Dust, Confetti Tiara

  • I squared off the rounded white french tips with Lavender Cloud.
  • I painted Ruby dust under the french tips on the body of the nails.
  • Then I painted Yellow Kitty over the dried Lavender Cloud.
  • When that was dry, I sponged Pixel Pretty over Yellow Kitty, 2 times.
  • Then I sponged Teal or No Teal on the tips.
  • Over Teal or No Teal, I lightly dabbed the LA Colors teal/turquoise glitter.
  • Tiara went lightly over the middle section on the Pixel Pretty.
  • I added the fruit and one or two rhinestones.
  • When it was dry, I dotted Black Velvet around the fruits and down the nail's body.
  • Clear topcoat over everything once the dots were dry.

And now I'm craving my mother's fruit salad. For special occasions, she'd hollow out a watermelon, cutting a handle into the top. Then she'd use her melon baller and scoop out all the different fruits to put in the basket.

Heavenly!

Red Flowers-Just a Little Bling

I've got so many irons in the fire, my brain feels like it's going to 'splode.  Check out my other blog, if you wanna know why. I decided to take a break and do some nail art.

Now that I got my nail dotters, I've been wanting to try to make flowers.

Nails I used:
These are short length. Not real short. So of course, they're longer on me. They are not as long as medium length on me, but somewhere in between. The nails come with glue and manicure stick. I'm not sure I'll have enough for another mani after this one, because the nails that remain are either a little too big or too small.

They are Featherlight, which according to Kiss means they take 30% less time to remove with the All in One remover. Who times this stuff?

The short length does not come with tabs to hold the nail in place while gluing.

I used my nail painting platform to do this nail art.

Polishes and Rhinestones:
Confett: Pink Confetti (a light glitter), The Red Carpet, Milani Nail Art Brush Green Stretch, Kiss Nail Art Paint Deep Purple, Rhinestones

  • I used my medium size dotter to make five dots with The Red Carpet on the nails. I took a manicure stick (could use a toothpick but I was too lazy to go to the kitchen) and drag the red dots to the middle to make the flower.
  • Next, I painted stems with Green Stretch, adding preschooler leaves. (I seriously can't draw).
  • When that was dry, I used Deep Purple for shading and definition on the stems and leaves.

On the flowers, I dabbed a little Pink Confetti glitter. While it was still wet, I placed rhinestones in the center of the flowers. I used diamond-like rhinestones on 4 nails, lavender rhinestones on 4 nails, and sapphire rhinestones on the first fingers. Once it all dried, I added clear topcoat to each nail.

I'm satisfied with the way it turned out. It's simple and restrained for me. LOL No glitter bombs or dozens of glued on embellisments.
Just a little bling.

Flowers and Pearls

Has this ever happened to you? You see something in the store that might not be the perfect fit for you, but you can't pass it up? And you figure once you get it home, you'll figure out a way to make it your own?

This happened to me recently.
I saw this package of pretty floral french tips, and I just couldn't resist.
::sigh::

It's one of the new Kiss Everlasting French Tips with accent designs. Not all of the nails have the floral design. And not every nail has the same design. Some of the nails have 2 flowers, while others have just one. There are plain white french tip nails inside as well.

These nails are medium in length. The  unadorned french tips definitely do not cover the ends of my short fingernails' edges. But I want to wear them!

So I had to come up with a solution.
The floral designs disguises my natural nails short comings.

I took the pink pearls from this wheel and did this:
To the thumbs and pinky nails I added pretty pearls.

I think the pearls coordinate well with the floral designs.

Do you agree?
